Deepfakes are AI generated images that imitate the real features of a person’s biometric attributes: real life picture likeness, voice, gait, movements etc. A deepfake can place a person in a videographic scene they were never at, saying things they never said and doing things they didn’t do in real life. Deepfakes are problematic in use to deceive the public.
EX: Donald Trump’s voice likeness fooled a US government media outlet this week, Voice of America. https://www.bizpacreview.com/2023/09/01/did-real-americas-voice-get-duped-by-a-fake-or-ai-version-of-donald-trump-in-on-air-phone-interview-1392230/
There are a variety of groups getting active, pro & con about the uses of AI to simulate online presence for entertainment or coverage. What are your thoughts?
My prediction: With all things AI, there will be a two-fold development. First will be public/private cryptographic keys that ensure identity. I think Nostr is something in this direction. Think platforms that will simply require mostly unspoofable cryptographic ID.
The second development will be a regression back to live events. I think this is just a simply by-product of the corruption of all media at this point. People might be fine with AI writing millenial-ukelele-whistling music for commercials, but anything with real heart will only exist in meat-space. Everything else will always have its authenticity in doubt and authenticity is the currency in an artificial future.
If it cannot be subject to tire-kicking or to the test of the Doubting Thomas, than it shouldn't be suffered as a social condition. There will be the pursuit of 3rd party government identity verification schemes to keep you in the crab trap. They are never moderate with limited conditions. Everyone is a child or a criminal to a government controller.
I think there is a role for good faith in all of this, but it shouldn't be awarded to old institutions with a track record of betraying basic sense and sound reasoned science. It should be awarded to the creative people, offering something new and helpful for humans to enjoy life, help each other meet their needs and overcome their strong problems.
