Should Hard-Power Tech Socialists from APAC Lose American Visa Sponsorship, For Denial of US Liberty?
Twitter has scaled away massive amounts of its unprofessional staff, complete with ideological dead weight. Employers reserve the right to revoke the bid for a US work Visa. Should they?
I invited Casey Newton and the Center for Human Technology to respond to an open queue for debate on issues they may or may not want to confront.
Casey,
I would like to produce an open dialogue about the unprincipled scramble of G20/WHO/WEF/PRC of academic language in the press. This might be towards language around " web stewardship". This would be the suddenly "magic" consensus of Canadians, under the boot of Trudeau's globalized agenda, who manage to self-certify their own morality programs for things like "inclusivity" (actual practice is exclusivity, as pressing to the margins the disobedient to editorial dictate- denying dissent in debates and economic sanctions using digital wallets).
It is simply not enough to say, "You are wrong,". You have to explain why you think I might be wrong. Then check in about how the mass distortion may have manipulated your own version of current events and of the facts by receiving the recitation of a rebuttal. That is known as "debate".
If we want to dissolve this era of division, we have to be willing to provoke discourse where we actually don't have consensus bubbled in. That is not the same is bubbling in that consensus for the other team because you won't admit them to the room. Otherwise, the flattening blow back continues, excessively emotional speech, speech deemed "inappropriate" will invade discourse and exchanges will continue to be thrown over the fence, epithets will shower etc. etc. People want less of this. So please make room for debate.
We may not precisely agree on the rules for an ethically meted internet. Voices you do not like or would openly agree with MUST be invited. These are essentially academics smeared as immoral or racist or transphobic in the tech court system with out so much as a direct confrontation or the ability to face their accusers. No one is asking you to like them or agree with them, but ... here we are.
These are the first wobbly steps toward Truth and Reconciliation. We need expository towards why Elon Musk is suddenly some sort of Libertarian pirate, forced to buy Twitter. Even if ad buys are scaling off, in 2 weeks time I think people who sell soft drinks and laundry detergent are going to see that if they become the morality police of ALL, without the G20 badge of approval, they are missing the profit forest for the admissibility of 3 Aspen trees.
We may not agree on "sustainability" as the ineffectual ESG. We may not agree that an independent external certification plan should govern the Internet when they don't obey the US tenets of right of free assembly & guileless association, basic civil liberties unfiltered by centrist pro-surveillance autocrats.
This is an invitation to an actually open American Internet. It's a bold query. It's going to require you to step outside of your comfort zone and obey median rules without a predictable outcome.
Take a leap of faith. You might be surprised.
Sincerely,
Sheila Dean
