An Open Letter to Elizabeth Warren To Repay A Student Loan
It's also a way to restitute public debt and solve a little government waste, fraud and abuse.
Dear Senator Elizabeth Warren,
I have watched over the last several years, including the Trump Administration, you struggle to admonish the public to pay my DOE student loan debt.
I have a student loan debt and I struggle to pay it. So why do I find this proposal wrong-minded?
You had the federal government provide you with a free full-ride scholarship based on your now proven defrauded native american status. No matter how I feel about this, it still happened. I think you should know, or at least deserve know what life is like for native americans of unrecognized tribal interests in the United States.
By my mother’s heritage, I am from a tribe who managed to completely evade US federal capture and reservation prison culture, altogether. We took Spanish or Basque last names and even intermarried with them, in part, to ensure the children and relatives by marriage could stay on their original lands in Texas. People in this State recognize the tribe, but there is an ongoing debate to gain federal recognition of the tribe, for primarily education purposes. There is some sponsorship of education, but it was not available at the time I took my student loans in the 1990s. Some of the cutest people around, have dubbed people like me, “free range natives”, because we evaded the reservation internment experience other tribal relations came to experience, as they were collected and removed generations ago into States, like Oklahoma.
There is no federal allotment for us. To be very clear, no one pays us to be native. By and large, I am totally fine with that. As the price is far too high for my personal liberty to be a ward of the US Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs. While it is no longer a crime to be native in the United States, and we are granted citizenship, upon 14th Amendment and other civil rights reforms, it has been highly dependent on proving identity. Unfortunately, the effectiveness of our survival as a tribe thus far has been largely reliant on our ability to conceal or camouflage our identity among local populations. We have enjoyed being overlooked for the purposes of survival.
Unfortunately, your educational misrepresentation was a form of government fraud. So it is now a good time for me to stand up and stand out to speak for the unrecognized.
No one has forgiven you for your fraud. No one has filed any charges, that I am aware of, from the tribe claims of your fraud. No one is holding you accountable for your fake identity and your government benefits theft on par with COVID-19 employment benefits theft.
I think you owe a debt to the US government to pay them back in full for the costs of your personal education, on the back of imprisoned tribes. To be clear this is the ONE TRIBE who have become a joke of over-assimilation being called the “other white meat” and “the other tribe that got off the boats,” by many living on reservations. While I consider those to be slurs and in poor taste, it is also what they call a “vulnerability” in the information security field because it is far too easy for people like you to exploit.
So, I have a double-edged solution for you to explore as a real challenge to your policy, asking the federal government to pay down all student loans. Since you defrauded the federal government the total amount of your own student loan, you should also pay my student loan. I am going to ask you to pay it, not because I am native and I “feel” entitled to a free education, but because I owe the federal government a high dollar amount of student loan debt and this is your policy idea. So learn to live with your own medicine.
The inability to pay has choked my employment prospects in the past due to a highly misguided debt-to-employment policy instated during the Clinton Administration, making it difficult to pay my loan and to get ahead. If you pay my student loan, from your large cache of personal high yield investments, given your educational pedigree, and fraudulent native American blood status, I think you will be on your way to rectifying your moral insolvency as a political actor. The Democrats can finally be the “big person” they intended to be by using money from a federal government body to pay off a DOE debt note.
I want you to think about it. Then go get your checkbook out, call the DOE and tell them you will be paying off my entire student loan debt note, in full with only my name: Sheila Marie Dean.
Thank you for considering this unique opportunity to offload my student debt from the taxpayer.
Sincerely,
Sheila Dean
As for myself, not only do I believe I’m entitled to free higher education but also the other 4 of the bill of rights FDR talked about. The right to affordable housing, the right to health care, the right to a job and the right to a living wage. This, not because my federal taxes pay for those things, because they don’t, but because that’s what a decent society does. But that’s just me.
